In case you don’t already know, I am the HUGEST Game of Thrones fan. As in “get together with friends every Sunday and watch and obsess about the every detail of the show” type of fan. I can’t believe that this season is already over and that series is soon coming to a close. Winter is coming!
One of my favorite details about the show is how brilliantly and wonderfully it is orchestrated. The music is always so filled with emotion and intensity and completely sets the mood and the tone of each scene. Therefore, as this season was coming to a close, I felt inspired to create a new version for the show’s theme song. I have already done a cover of The Rains of Castamere and a duet of the Game of Thrones theme with Lindsey Stirling on violin. However, this time around I wanted to give you all an entirely acappella verision of the track. While both versions are near and dear to me, I am super proud of how this version turned out!
Another one of the reasons why I am so excited to share this new version is that it is also a collaboration with an AMAZING fellow YouTuber. During my last trip to LA for Vidcon I was able to join forces with Matthew Patrick, or MatPat, who if you don’t already know, is the creator and narrator of the webseries Game Theory and all around brilliant and hilarious dude. Not to mention, he also has a degree in Musical Theather (impressive, I know) so it was a great treat to have MatPat lend his vocals to the 140+ different tracks on this a capella version of the Game of Thrones theme.
And just wait until you see the costumes! Unlike my previous Game of Thrones videos, this time MatPat and I decided to go full cosplay and transform ourselves into the characters we know and love on the show. MatPat makes an incredible dashing young Bran and I take on the roles of Jorah Mormont, Petyr Baelish a.k.a. Littlefinger, Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, and yes even Hodor (may he rest in peace). We coordinated costumes from other cosplayers, shipped in pieces from even New York, and got tutorials from the professionals on wigs and stage makeup, including Tyrion’s intense scar!
Once again, it was such an amazing experience to get to dress up and immerse ourselves into the incredible world of Westeros while doing the video. This video was shot in both LA and at my studio in Oregon and has truly been a labor of love for MatPat, my team, and myself.
Thank you so much to everyone that has given us support! Your love and encouragement make it all worth it, especially when I can give you back a super entertaining video in return. Do you enjoy Game of Thrones as much as I do?! Let me know in the comments below what you think of our interpretation of the song and I hope you all enjoy “Game of Thrones in Real Life”!
Loves, P
