FAQs

For quality mastering on a tight budget, I highly recommend Landr. You can try it out and get two free masters here.

I started with Pro Tools LE, which you can get here, and a R0de Nt-1a Microphone, which you can get here.

I currently use Pro Tools, although if I were starting now I might start with Logic Pro X!

I use Canon DSLR cameras. I started on the Canon t3i, moved to the Canon 60D, and now use the Canon 5D mark III.

If you’re on a budget, I would start with the Canon t3i, which you can pick up here. I did my first 5 or 6 videos with it! Also pick up a 50mm f/1.8 lens – here is a great one to start with.

Final Cut X. Although, starting out I would recommend iMovie, which is a super easy version of Final Cut!

I work with Kent Carollo, and could not recommend him more highly! He would love to work with more artists – send him an email here.

To start, make sure you are doing something that you love, because in the beginning you will put in thousands of hours of work, losing money and sleep doing it. If you really want to succeed, don’t have a plan B. While we’re at it, if you aren’t on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+, Instagram, and/or Tumblr engaging and answering your supporters, you are doing something wrong. When you’re starting off, respond to EVERY comment. Engage. Be genuine. Be who you are, and do it YOURSELF, and you will have a better chance of succeeding. Don’t allow anyone to take a huge piece of your revenue stream. They didn’t create your brand, they didn’t develop YOUR talent — don’t give them your money. Do it yourself, and you will do better.

My good friend Graham has a PHENOMENAL channel where he teaches you how to make music for FREE. Check out his website or YouTube channel!

Yes! My film team is absolutely phenomenal, and some of the nicest people on earth. They’ve filmed for Pentatonix, Lindsey Stirling, Taylor Davis, John Legend, and many others. You can check out their work here, or shoot them an email here.

TubeBuddy is a browser extension that I find really helps get a lot of things done quickly! It adds a layer of tools right inside YouTube’s website. You can make bulk updates to videos, Cards and Annotations, and optimize your videos with advanced keyword rankings. It really speeds up your workflow! Check it out here.

I highly recommend Soundrop. Soundrop is the easiest way for musicians to get their music into iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and more.

Yes! I cannot say enough amazing things about Patreon. It has honestly changed my life – I no longer worry about how I’ll pay my team, or fund my next project, or book a flight to my next collab. My amazing patrons help me to make bigger and better productions – and join me on my journey. If you think Kickstarter or Indiegogo is a great way to fund one-off projects, Patreon is the answer for artists of ALL kinds, for an ongoing, sustainable income.

I use tubularlabs.com for diving into all of my social numbers – everything from responding to comments more quickly, to figuring out who to collab with next, to understanding how well my marketing pushes are performing. And best of all, it’s FREE!!

For Twitter, I recommend the Chrome plugin TweetDeck. I also use a website called Epoxy, which allows you to quickly respond to people on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. So far I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful! I highly encourage anyone who wants to do this for a living to interact with anyone and everyone who reaches out to you, on ANY social media platform.

I have a degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon. Go Ducks!

I’d love to be friends! This is one of the perks I offer for my patrons on Patreon, you can check that out here!

Feel free to send me any personal messages, feedback, song requests, questions, etc. at peterhollens2@gmail.com. It might take me a while to respond, but I will do my best to get back to you asap! Business inquiries and booking questions ONLY can be sent to peterhollensmusic@gmail.com.

Yes! I love to read your letters, and I put them up on my fan wall. Please make sure to add your Twitter account or email address when you send a letter because I WANT TO RESPOND TO YOU! (YES, I’M SERIOUS, LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. DO IT. PLEASE!)
